The New Zealand education program is known throughout the world for their elementary reading and math curricula. Studying abroad prepares both undergraduate and qualified teachers with cultural and self awareness and can prepare them for leadership roles in a global community. Placements in New Zealand classrooms to complete a 2 - 16 week teacher practicum will give participants valuable and classroom-ready skills that can be implemented immediately in your literacy teaching. This program will help to gain a significant competitive edge in the fierce job market.  In addition to showing interest in diversity and international issues, going abroad also demonstrates many other traits that potential employers may find valuable.

Classroom

Throughout my career I have refined several areas of expertise which serve to build capacity in schools. In order to build a successful infrastructure, I will:

  • Develop Principals as Instructional Leaders.
  • Plan and facilitate ongoing support as they implement comprehensive literacy programs.
  • This will result in more focused efforts to reach and teach all students.

Coaching

In order to foster ongoing literacy expertise, classroom teachers must be able to:

  • Assess to identify student strengths on a variety of tasks that assess real reading

          and writing and plan instruction.

  • Truly understand the reading and writing process and teaching for strategic activity.
  • Be proficient and knowledgeable in teaching all phases of literacy.
  • Be proactive in teaching older students who struggle to learn to read and write.
